• An EC funded Thermie programme on Explosive Cutting for Abandonment of Offshore Structures using novel designs in explosive technology. EEC funded EXCUT project (£1,600,000) on underwater explosive cutting, REL/UMIST provided project management and engineering

• EC Thermie is also supporting a demonstration project on the Cutting of large tubes/pipes underwater. REL provided project management and engineering

• EROS (Explosive Removal of Offshore Structures) JIP, a £2.7 million research and development programme of deep-water cutting tools and validated 3-D computer simulation software to predict sub-sea explosive effects during the cutting of a jacket funded by AMOCO, MOBIL, CIECO and AMERADA HESS. REL provided project management and engineering

• JIP on the toppling of offshore jackets funded by Amoco & Philips Petroleum Norway - REL provided project management and engineering

• JIP on the development of hinges for the controlled toppling of jackets funded by Amoco and Phillips Petroleum Norway- - REL provided project management and engineering

• JIP on the Design & testing of a reusable Controlled Variable Buoyancy System (CVBS) for the removal of offshore jackets, Phases 1 to 3. Funded by BP, DTI, Elf, Halliburton & Philips Petroleum Norway, - REL provided project management and engineering

• Provided engineering, modelling & marketing assistance to Versatruss Americas LLC for their lifting systems for the installation and removal 
  topsides and jackets
